Description



Winchester Cardiology and Vascular Medicine (WCVM), along with Panhandle Cardiology, stands as the premier cardiology practice in the northern Shenandoah Valley. POSITION SUMMARY:

Works to facilitate patient flow and ensure an accurate and complete medical record for each patient.


Medical Scribe duties:

  • Accompany physician into the patient examination room in order to transcribe a history and physical exam, and documentaccurately the physicians encounter with the patient and other present.
  • Transcribe patient orders including laboratory test, radiology test, medications, etc.List all proper diagnoses and symptoms as well as follow up instructions and prescriptions as dictated by the physician.
  • Prepare office notes/template for upcoming appointmentsReview test results and update electronic medical records with current information.

Assists in Clinic as necessary based on staffing needs. Clinic Duties include:

  • Cheerfully greets patients and escorts them to the examination rooms.
  • Takes vital signs (pulse, blood pressure, respirations) as well as height/weight and accurately records results in patient’s chart.
  • Records all of the patient’s current medications in the appropriate section of the chart – to be updated each visit.
  • Performs electrocardiogram per protocol.
  • Brief review of interim history pertinent to physician seeing patient.
  • Notify physician of any significant health changes or hospitalizations.
  • Obtain any necessary reports, hospital records, etc. to assist in patient care.
  • Reviews and assists in completion of forms required by physician prior to examination (e.g., health questionnaire, health history, etc.).
  • Notifies physician when patient is ready for examination.
  • Assists physician with examinations and procedures as needed.
  • Adhere to OSHA and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Monitor, order and stock clinical supplies.
  • Maintain clean and orderly exam rooms.
  • Performs other tasks or services deemed necessary by the physician or administrator.
Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Preferred at least one year of medical office, clinic or other healthcare setting experience.
  • Typing proficiency of 40+ words per minute
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of medical terms and abbreviations.
  • Extensive knowledge and comfort of use of computer, electronic medical record, Microsoft Word, telephone, fax machine and other basic office systems.
  • Comfort with use EKG machine, sphygmomanometer and basic clinical tools.
  • Physical lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to make a great first impression and sustain it; employ tact, diplomacy and compassion with all types of people; maintain cooperative relationships with staff members, patients and physicians; prioritize duties appropriately, maintain privacy with information according to HIPPA guidelines; perform functions with accuracy and integrity.
